Workers’ Compensation/General Liability Insurance Premium Auditor

$30 per billable hour for audits completed from home, with travel-based audits paying up to $45 per billable hour

RLD Associates, Inc. is seeking a part-time, home-based Premium Auditor. This role requires travel.

As a Premium Auditor, you will work independently in the field and meet with businesses to complete insurance premium audits. These audits involve reviewing accounting records and conducting detailed interviews to confirm the insured’s business operations, classifications, and related premium.

You will be responsible for the Ithaca, NY area. Travel is expected 1–2 days per week within an approximate 60-mile radius.

Pay is based on a billable-hour structure. Only productive time is considered billable.

What you’ll do:

  • Review audit requests.
  • Prioritize inventory and organize your workload.
  • Contact named insureds to schedule audit appointments.
  • Travel to appointment locations.
  • Conduct on-site interviews regarding business operations and prepare clear, effective descriptions of those operations.
  • Review payroll and sales records and compare them with tax reports to confirm accuracy.
  • Research and apply appropriate manual rules and classifications in accordance with insurance industry standards.
  • Prepare written audit reports that include data analysis, calculations, and classifications.

What you’ll bring:

  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • A personable and professional approach.
  • A two-year degree in accounting or a related field is preferred. Experience with bookkeeping, payroll preparation, or commercial insurance is also valued.
  • Reliable transportation.
